Program ZIP Codes and Cities

The California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP) offers two seismic retrofit grant programs--Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) and Earthquake Soft-Story (ESS). Each program is offered in unique program areas, designated by ZIP Code. See below for each grant program's ZIP Codes, or search:

EBB Program ZIP Codes

The Earthquake Brace + Bolt program is available only for homes in select ZIP Codes. New areas are added using the following two criteria, which are weighted equally:

  • Earthquake Hazard: Hazard is identified using the United States Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake hazard map for California.
  • Earthquake Vulnerability: Vulnerability is represented by identifying the percentage of pre-1940 houses in ZIP Codes in California (US Census Data). Older houses are more likely to require earthquake bracing and bolting.

ESS Program ZIP Codes

The ESS grant program is currently available only for qualified homes in select ZIP Codes. New areas are added with every program year, as additional funding allows, guided by the following criteria:

  • Earthquake Hazard: Higher-hazard areas are identified using the United States Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake-hazard map for California.
  • The FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program-designated Locations: The grant that funds this program has specific counties identified. The program only will be available in those counties and may be available only in certain ZIP Codes within those counties.

Eligible EMR Cities

Earthquake Multi-Unit Retrofit (EMR) is offered in specific cities that have adopted mandatory multi-unit soft-story retrofit ordinances. These cities are all located in areas of high seismicity within California.
